O trabalho dá trabalho. Mas se o mundo existe assim - a Natureza inicial acrescentada de existências nunca vistas - é mesmo porque os humanos juntaram a inteligência às mãos para montar uma oficina de sonhos. E à ferramenta chamaram Trabalho. Têm os magos a varinha mágica para a transformação dos desejos em realidade. E tem a gente comum sua varinha também, que transforma pedras em calçada, semente em eito de seara, palavras em poema, metal e fogo em foguetão.
Mas quando o trabalho dá muito trabalho e os braços se queixam de cansaço, a voz inventa-lhe cantigas. Uma espécie de abracadabra para acompanhar o ceifar, o fiar, o aboiar, o recolher a rede, o partir o rochedo. Duas magias em vez de uma só!
São essas cantigas que aqui se cantam, histórias afinal da vida do pão, que é lavra e sementeira colheita e debulha, entre a chuva e o fogo, entre a fome e a barriga cheia. O trabalho dá trabalho, mas… e o consolo que dá?

Work is hard. But if the world exists as it does – the original Nature enriched by things never seen before – it is because humans joined intelligence with their hands to build a workshop of dreams. And they called that tool Work. Wizards have a magic wand to turn wishes into reality. Ordinary people have their own wand too, transforming stones into pavements, seeds into fields of grain, words into poetry, and metal and fire into rockets.
But when work becomes very hard and weary arms begin to complain, the voice invents songs for it. A kind of abracadabra to accompany harvesting, spinning, cattle calling, hauling in the nets or breaking rock. Two kinds of magic instead of one!
These are the songs sung here, stories of the life of bread itself: ploughing and sowing, harvesting and threshing, between rain and fire, between hunger and a full stomach. Work is hard, but… what comfort it brings!
