Concebido pelo compositor e pianista vimaranense Pedro Emanuel Pereira, "Beyond Miles" reúne cinco intérpretes provenientes de universos artísticos distintos — Pedro Emanuel Pereira (piano e composição), Helena Ressurreição (voz), João Barradas (acordeão), André Rosinha (contrabaixo) e Ricardo Coelho (multipercussão) — numa formação que cruza a tradição da música clássica, a linguagem do jazz e a criação contemporânea.
O programa apresenta um ciclo de dez canções originais em língua portuguesa, compostas especialmente para esta formação. No centro deste universo musical está a relação íntima entre melodia e palavra, elemento que atravessa a criação artística de Pedro Emanuel Pereira desde os seus primeiros trabalhos e que encontra aqui uma nova expressão no território da canção.
Ao longo do concerto, voz e ensemble constroem um percurso musical contínuo, onde cada canção revela uma nova paisagem expressiva. A escrita mantém uma forte ligação à clareza melódica e à tonalidade, enquanto o diálogo entre os intérpretes abre espaço a diferentes sensibilidades musicais e momentos de liberdade interpretativa.
A poesia ocupa um lugar central neste ciclo. As canções convocam algumas das vozes mais marcantes da literatura de língua portuguesa, reunindo textos de Luís de Camões, Fernando Pessoa, Clarice Lispector e do poeta vimaranense Paulo César Gonçalves. Através destes autores, o concerto atravessa diferentes épocas e sensibilidades da palavra poética, fazendo da voz o eixo narrativo do projeto.
O título "Beyond Miles" evoca a figura de Miles Davis, cuja obra permanece como um dos exemplos mais marcantes de abertura estética na música do século XX. Ao longo da sua carreira, Davis reuniu músicos de diferentes tradições e reinventou continuamente a linguagem do jazz, explorando novas formas de encontro entre géneros musicais.
Inspirado por esse espírito de liberdade e reinvenção, Beyond Miles propõe um espaço de criação onde música, poesia e improvisação se encontram, afirmando a canção como território privilegiado de diálogo entre diferentes linguagens artísticas.
Apresentado em estreia no Guimarães Jazz 2026, este projeto marca um novo momento no percurso artístico de Pedro Emanuel Pereira, reunindo intérpretes de diferentes tradições numa linguagem comum que atravessa fronteiras entre géneros e sensibilidades musicais.

Conceived by composer and pianist Pedro Emanuel Pereira from Guimarães, “Beyond Miles” brings together five performers from different artistic backgrounds — Pedro Emanuel Pereira (piano and composition), Helena Ressurreição (voice), João Barradas (accordion), André Rosinha (double bass) and Ricardo Coelho (multi-percussion) — in a line-up that blends the tradition of classical music, the language of jazz and contemporary creation.
The programme features a cycle of ten original songs in Portuguese, specially composed for this line-up. At the heart of this musical universe lies the intimate relationship between melody and words, an element that has run through Pedro Emanuel Pereira’s artistic work since his earliest projects and finds a new expression here in the realm of song.
Throughout the concert, voice and ensemble build a continuous musical journey, with each song revealing a new expressive landscape. The writing maintains a strong connection to melodic clarity and tonality, while the dialogue between the performers creates space for different musical sensibilities and moments of interpretative freedom.
Poetry occupies a central place in this cycle. The songs draw on some of the most significant voices in Portuguese-language literature, bringing together texts by Luís de Camões, Fernando Pessoa, Clarice Lispector and the poet from Guimarães, Paulo César Gonçalves. Through these authors, the concert explores different eras and sensibilities of poetic expression, making the voice the project's narrative axis.
