Os londrinos caroline nunca foram fáceis de definir. Banda em constante ascensão, começaram como trio e cresceram a partir de sessões de improvisação. Em 2022, já como octeto completo, surpreenderam com o homónimo disco de estreia — um conjunto de canções que privilegia a lentidão, o espaço e a repetição. Pelo caminho, revelaram uma lista de influências tão diversa quanto coesa: a folk britânica dos anos 70, a música dos Apalaches, o avant-folk de Microphones, o midwest emo de American Football e o pós-rock de Slint, Tortoise ou Broken Social Scene.
Como qualquer boa sequela, caroline 2 (2025) representa um passo em frente. Orquestral quando necessário, minimalista quando a música assim o exige, é um trabalho que transcende estruturas e géneros. Anunciado com a canção “Tell me I never knew that”, que conta com a voz inconfundível de Caroline Polachek, o álbum vive de colisões e contradições, dando forma à espontaneidade e ao processo coletivo de criação. Em “Coldplay cover”, a banda divide-se em dois grupos, ocupa salas adjacentes e interpreta composições distintas em simultâneo, enquanto um microfone circula entre os espaços, captando cada momento.
