Cole Pulice
A música de Cole Pulice flutua entre a tradição do jazz, o experimentalismo eletrónico e a música ambient. Combinando saxofone e sintetizadores MIDI que respondem ao sopro, enquanto controla uma rede detalhada de pedais de efeitos com os pés, Pulice cria composições de carácter quase sobrenatural, oscilando entre o acústico e o digital. Por vezes, o saxofone soa como esperado; noutras, o som é tão estendido e processado que dá origem a novas combinações tímbricas.
Natural de Minneapolis e atualmente residente em Oakland, Pulice já colaborou com artistas como Bon Iver, Godspeed You! Black Emperor e Toro y Moi. Integrou o noneto Black Market Brass e o grupo LCM antes de se lançar a solo com Gloam (2020). Seguiram-se colaborações com Lynn Avery e Nat Harvie e o lançamento de Scry (2022), que o consolidou como uma figura central do avant-jazz contemporâneo. O reconhecimento ampliou-se com If I Don’t See You in the Future, I’ll See You in the Pasture (2023), uma odisseia eletroacústica de 22 minutos distinguida pela Pitchfork com o selo Best New Music e incluída entre as melhores canções da década de 2020.
Em maio de 2025, Pulice apresentou Land’s End Eternal, editado pela Leaving Records. O álbum expande o seu universo sonoro ao incorporar guitarra elétrica e arranjos corais exuberantes, resultando numa coleção de jazz de câmara pastoral dividida em seis capítulos. Ao vivo, Cole Pulice apresenta-se em duo, permitindo que a guitarra conduza e pontue as suas explorações, numa conversa hipnótica entre sopro e eletrónica.

Cole Pulice’s music drifts between the traditions of jazz, electronic experimentation and ambient sound. Combining saxophone with MIDI synthesizers that respond to breath, while operating an intricate network of effects pedals with their feet, Pulice creates compositions of almost otherworldly character, moving between the acoustic and the digital. At times the saxophone sounds as expected; at others, it is so extended and processed that entirely new timbral combinations emerge.
Originally from Minneapolis and now based in Oakland, Pulice has collaborated with artists such as Bon Iver, Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Toro y Moi. They were also a member of the nonet Black Market Brass and the group LCM before releasing their solo debut Gloam (2020). Collaborations with Lynn Avery and Nat Harvie were followed by Scry(2022), which established Pulice as a key figure in contemporary avant-jazz. Wider recognition came with If I Don’t See You in the Future, I’ll See You in the Pasture (2023), a 22-minute electroacoustic odyssey awarded Pitchfork’s Best New Music and included among the best songs of the 2020s.
In May 2025, Pulice released Land’s End Eternal via Leaving Records. The album further expands their sonic universe by incorporating electric guitar and lush choral arrangements, resulting in a pastoral chamber jazz suite divided into six chapters. Live, Cole Pulice performs as a duo, allowing the guitar to lead and accent their explorations in a hypnotic dialogue between breath and electronics.
