"A espera continua, ninguém arreda pé, a tarde vai-se iniciando e penso na possibilidade de conseguir levar a Fátima a comer alguma coisa ao bar. Ela precisa de se alimentar. Após uma recusa inicial e com a ajuda do Agostinho e do Jorge, consigo levá-la, amparando o seu corpo, hoje frágil, até ao bar do hospital, que fica próximo. Muito a custo, consigo convencê-la a comer uma torrada e a beber um chá bem quente. Pela televisão, vão passando em alta voz, para que ninguém deixe de ouvir, as notícias do dia. Duas bombas em Chaves, uma numa fábrica de cerâmica e outra no posto retransmissor da Emissora Nacional, que ficou destruído, e outra na casa de um dirigente do MDP, em Viseu. Surge igualmente a informação de que o PCP continua empenhado numa solução negociada para a grave crise que atravessamos e que solicitou através do seu líder, Álvaro Cunhal, uma audiência ao Presidente Costa Gomes, a fim de lhe transmitir, de viva voz, que ao contrário do que querem fazer passar muitos jornais e lideres políticos, o PCP não está envolvido nem se envolverá em qualquer iniciativa ou confronto militar, insistindo que a solução para os graves problemas que atravessamos, tem de ser política e obtida por meios pacíficos. Ouço as notícias, lá bem longe, entendo-as, mas nenhuma reacção me suscitam… Não consigo… Os meus pensamentos estão com a Marta e não quero admitir, por um segundo que seja, que poderei não mais a ter nos meus braços…
A ânsia por novidades alimenta-nos e não se pensa sequer em ir à messe para as refeições. Umas cervejas geladas vão-nos revigorando, pois ninguém pretende estar afastado, ainda que por breves minutos, do local de onde poderão surgir as novidades. Mas, compreensivelmente, o dia vai já longo e as novidades escasseiam… Até que ao fim do dia, já a noite se insinua dominadora, nos surge a notícia bem fresca, via RCP - Rádio Clube Português - que o poder foi entregue pelo MFA - Movimento das Forças Armadas - a uma Junta de Salvação Nacional, composta pelos seguintes elementos: Generais António Spínola, Costa Gomes e Silvério Marques, do Exército, Galvão de Melo e Diogo Neto, da Força Aérea e Almirantes Pinheiro de Azevedo e Rosa Coutinho, da Marinha. Que dizer?..."

nasceu em Oliveira do Bairro em novembro de 1951. É Licenciado em Auditoria, Pós-Graduado em Relações Internacionais, Mestre em Direito, com Especialização em Ciências Jurídico-Políticas, Mestre em Relações Internacionais e Diplomacia com Especialização em Diplomacia Política e Doutorando em Ciência Política e Relações Internacionais. Gestor de Empresas, Professor dos Ensinos Secundário e Superior, Dirigente Associativo e Piloto de aviões. Tem publicados os livros Catalunha – Questão Política ou Questão Jurídica?, nas Edições Sílabo, Do Inverno à Primavera e O Conflito Israelo-Árabe Século XX – Esperança e descrença, nas Edições Colibri.

"The wait continues, no one moves, the afternoon is beginning and I think about the possibility of taking Fátima to the hospital cafeteria to eat something. She needs to eat. After an initial refusal and with Agostinho and Jorge's help, I manage to take her there, supporting her fragile body, to the cafeteria, which is nearby. With great difficulty, I manage to convince her to eat some toast and drink a hot cup of tea. On television, the day's news is being broadcast at full volume so that no one can fail to hear it. Two bombs in Chaves, one at a ceramics factory and another at the retransmission station of Emissora Nacional, which was destroyed, and another at the home of an MDP leader in Viseu. There is also information that the PCP remains committed to a negotiated solution to the serious crisis we are going through and has requested, through its leader, Álvaro Cunhal, an audience with President Costa Gomes, in order to tell him, face to face, that contrary to what many newspapers and political leaders are trying to suggest, the PCP is not involved and will not become involved in any military initiative or confrontation, insisting that the solution to the serious problems we are facing must be political and achieved through peaceful means. I hear the news, far away, I understand it, but it provokes no reaction in me… I can't… My thoughts are with Marta and I don't want to admit, even for a second, that I may never hold her in my arms again…
The anxiety for news sustains us and we don't even think about going to the mess hall for meals. Cold beers revive us, because no one wants to be away, even for a few minutes, from the place where news might emerge. But, understandably, the day is already long and the news is scarce… Until, at the end of the day, as night begins to fall, we receive the fresh news, via RCP - Rádio Clube Português - that power has been handed over by the MFA - Armed Forces Movement - to a National Salvation Junta, composed of the following members: Generals António Spínola, Costa Gomes and Silvério Marques, of the Army, Galvão de Melo and Diogo Neto, of the Air Force, and Admirals Pinheiro de Azevedo and Rosa Coutinho, of the Navy. What is there to say?..."

was born in Oliveira do Bairro in November 1951. He holds a degree in Auditing, a postgraduate degree in International Relations, a Master's degree in Law, specialising in Legal and Political Sciences, a Master's degree in International Relations and Diplomacy, specialising in Political Diplomacy, and is pursuing a PhD in Political Science and International Relations. He is a company manager, secondary and higher education teacher, association leader and pilot. He has published the books Catalunha – Questão Política ou Questão Jurídica?, published by Edições Sílabo, Do Inverno à Primavera and O Conflito Israelo-Árabe Século XX – Esperança e descrença, published by Edições Colibri.
