Desde a sua génese no ano letivo de 2021/2022, o Mestrado em Media Arts da Universidade do Minho tem cultivado uma forte parceria com o gnration e a Braga Media Arts. Em 2024, essa relação estreitou-se ainda mais, quando a eMMA – Exposição do Mestrado em Media Arts chegou, pela primeira vez ao gnration, um espaço que é também uma das salas de aula do curso. Este ano, a quinta edição da exposição de final de ano volta a ser apresentada aqui, com novas obras e novos artistas. Na interseção entre arte, comunicação e tecnologia, os estudantes são incentivados a explorar formas inovadoras para a expressão artística. Com um plano de estudos focado na aprendizagem laboratorial, prática e projetual, os artistas em formação utilizam ferramentas e conceitos da arte digital e do campo da tecnologia para desenvolver novas obras e projetos no domínio das Media Arts.
A relação muito próxima com a Braga Media Arts e com o gnration enriquece ainda mais a experiência dos alunos, oferecendo acesso privilegiado a atividades culturais e artísticas relevantes, que complementam e inspiram o trabalho académico. Nesta exposição de final de ano letivo, os estudantes – artistas emergentes – têm a oportunidade de mostrar à comunidade os projetos desenvolvidos, seja individualmente ou em colaboração. As obras apresentadas exploram temas tão diversos como identidade digital e memória individual e coletiva, alterações climáticas, migração e ativismo, processos generativos de criação artística e muito mais. A exposição eMMA oferece assim uma oportunidade para testemunhar, em primeira mão, o potencial transformador da arte digital e da tecnologia na sociedade pela mão de uma nova geração de artistas.

Since its creation in the 2021/2022 academic year, the Master’s in Media Arts at the University of Minho has developed a strong partnership with gnration and Braga Media Arts. In 2024, this relationship became even closer, when eMMA – the Media Arts Master’s Exhibition – was presented at gnration for the first time, a space that also serves as one of the course’s classrooms. This year, the fifth edition of the end-of-year exhibition returns to the same venue, with new works and new artists. At the intersection of art, communication and technology, students are encouraged to explore innovative forms of artistic expression. With a study plan focused on laboratory-based, practical and project-oriented learning, emerging artists use tools and concepts from digital art and technology to develop new works and projects within the field of Media Arts.
The close relationship with Braga Media Arts and gnration further enriches the students’ experience, offering privileged access to relevant cultural and artistic activities that complement and inspire their academic work. In this end-of-year exhibition, students – emerging artists – have the opportunity to present their projects to the community, whether individually or collaboratively. The works on display explore a wide range of themes such as digital identity and individual and collective memory, climate change, migration and activism, generative artistic processes and more. The eMMA exhibition offers an opportunity to witness, first-hand, the transformative potential of digital art and technology in society, through the work of a new generation of artists.
