Kurt Wagner está de regresso a Portugal para apresentar o novo disco Punching the Clown, a lançar no dia 21 de agosto pela City Slang. O 17.º álbum da banda de Nashville começou depois de Wagner ouvir uma canção na rádio enquanto conduzia: um banjo tocado com um acorde minimalista e um pequeno grupo de vozes. Na sua procura (sem frutos) pela canção, descobriu uma forma de canto gospel originário na Escócia no século XIX, o Lined Out Singing, que acabou por se tornar uma inspiração para o disco que conta com a colaboração do guitarrista Andrew Broder, participações de Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) e Blake Morgan, e produção de Ryan Olson.
Fundados no início dos anos 90 do século passado, os Lambchop autodenominaram-se “a banda de country mais louca de Nashville”, abraçando o legado musical da cidade natal apesar da visível provocação presente. Ao longo dos anos, foram incorporando elementos soul, jazz e country na sua música, ao mesmo tempo que a voz de Kurt Wagner permaneceu a essência da banda.

Kurt Wagner returns to Portugal to present the new album Punching the Clown, due for release on 21 August via City Slang. The 17th album by the Nashville band began after Wagner heard a song on the radio while driving: a banjo played with a minimalist chord and a small group of voices. While unsuccessfully searching for the song, he discovered Lined Out Singing, a form of gospel singing that originated in 19th-century Scotland, which ultimately became the inspiration for the album. The record features guitarist Andrew Broder, guest appearances by Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) and Blake Morgan, and production by Ryan Olson.
Founded in the early 1990s, Lambchop famously described themselves as “Nashville's most fucked-up country band”, embracing the musical legacy of their hometown despite the obvious provocation behind the label. Over the years, they have incorporated elements of soul, jazz and country into their music, while Kurt Wagner’s voice has remained the defining essence of the band.
